How to accept GCash and Maya payments in a small shop
· 3 min read
More customers want to pay by phone, especially for bigger amounts. Accepting GCash and Maya is easy. Checking that the money really arrived is the part to get right.
Your options
- Show your account QR code. The simplest start. Print it and place it at the counter.
- A business or merchant account. Better for records and higher volumes. Ask GCash or Maya about their business accounts.
- QR Ph. The national QR standard. One code can be scanned by GCash, Maya and many bank apps.
Never trust a screenshot alone
The most common scam at small counters is a fake or old payment screenshot. Always check that the money arrived in your own app before you hand over the goods, especially for large amounts.
- Check the notification or the transaction history on your phone.
- Match the amount and the time.
- If it is busy, ask the customer to wait a moment. Honest customers do not mind.
Record the reference number
Write down the reference number with the sale. If a customer later says they paid, you can find the payment in seconds.
Keep digital sales separate from cash
At closing, your drawer should only contain cash sales. Count GCash and Maya separately. If you mix them, a cash shortage can hide behind digital payments.
In your POS
In Tindro, the cashier picks GCash, Maya or cash at checkout and can type the reference number. Reports then show how much came in by each method, and the cash drawer only expects the cash.
